It all began with Pietro Giacalone “the Greek” a simple fisherman, first fishing from boats under sail. Like so many other young men he emigrated to America to seek his fortune and remained there until the early thirties when he returned to Mazara del Vallo and bought his first motorized fishing boat.

During the dark period of the War, Pietro was able to overcome the stuggles thanks to the passion for his work and the help of his children. In the years to come, his first deep-sea fishing boat was built, first in wood and then steel, ever larger and more sophisticated.

Even today, after 100 years, two of Pietro’s grandsons, Paolo and Nicola continue to own and operate with the same passion and dedication as his grandfather.

The Giacalone, “the Greeks”, a history spanning 100 years.
